Rural America & The Clean Energy Transition at Climate Week NYC
By Canary Media
There’s never been a better time to electrify your home. The Biden administration has authorized billions of dollars in federal subsidies for everything from heat pumps to induction stoves. Plenty of states and utilities have incentive programs of their own, too.
But just because it’s the best time doesn’t mean it’s an easy thing to do. From navigating opaque government programs to finding the right contractor, there’s a lot to manage when it comes to kicking fossil fuels out of your house.
That’s why, in partnership with clean energy nonprofit Generation180, Canary Media convened a panel of home electrification experts last week to share their advice on how to approach the task. Staff writer Alison F. Takemura — author of Canary Media’s Electrified Life column — moderated the discussion between Nica Mendoza, ambassador at Generation180; DR Richardson, CEO of home electrification startup Elephant Energy; and Bob Soule, a volunteer “electric coach” with Rewiring America.
