If you’re looking for some inspiration on the American manufacturing renaissance, you can count on the words of Jigar Shah, director of the Loan Programs Office at the U.S. Department of Energy.

In a live conversation in June, Shah, who is tasked with loaning $400 billion to help catalyze key clean energy technologies, spoke with Canary Media Editorial Director Eric Wesoff about how the federal government is spurring EV, solar and battery production, how this benefits Americans and what hurdles still need to be overcome.

We really need to get our mojo back, and I think that’s happening. Part of this is sending a clear signal to entrepreneurs and investors and saying: Look, America can do big things, and we will do big things,” Shah said during the event, adding, We’ve always invented everything here. I’m very proud of that. Now we have to manufacture and deploy here as well.”

Alongside the Inflation Reduction Act, signed last August, Shah’s Loan Programs Office is helping to supercharge clean energy manufacturing across the country.
