ELECTRIC VEHICLES

OFFSHORE WIND

  • US Wind says it could face bankruptcy if it’s not able to build its Maryland Offshore Wind project, which is already facing opposition from the Trump administration and Ocean City. (4C Offshore)

  • A joint venture between BP and JERA announces it will not proceed with Beacon Wind, a planned 1.2-gigawatt wind farm off the Massachusetts coast: We see no viable path.” (Maritime Executive)

STORAGE

  • Battery storage company Eos Energy announces plans to invest $353 million to relocate its headquarters from New Jersey to Pittsburgh, and expand its operations in Pennsylvania. (WESA)

CLEAN ENERGY

  • Another four clean energy manufacturing projects totaling $1.6 billion in new investments were canceled in the U.S. in September. (E2)

FOSSIL FUELS

  • Global coal use hit a record high last year, elevating doubts that the world will meet emissions reduction goals by 2050. (The Guardian)

  • Rising exports and a lack of pipeline capacity has raised the price of natural gas, incentivizing utilities to fall back on coal instead. (Politico)

GRID

  • Grid operator ISO New England has launched an interconnection study for a group consisting of 21 battery storage, two solar, and three wind projects, including the proposed 1.2-gigawatt SouthCoast Wind 1 development. (Utility Dive)

  • Michigan’s transmission grid will benefit from a recent $1.6 billion federal loan guarantee for AEP, though the fate of $14 billion more in loan guarantees promised by the Biden administration to upgrade DTE Energy’s and Consumers Energy’s grid is uncertain. (MLive)

SOLAR

  • Texas-based startup Janta Power raises $5.5 million in seed money for its three-dimensional solar tower systems, which it says allow for three times more capacity per acre than traditional solar panels. (Dallas Innovates, Inside Climate News)
