Charging Up: Women’s climatetech career moves at EIP, Overture, Recurrent Energy, Borrego, EnergeiaWorks and more

The new year ushers in new job moves in venture capital, solar and renewable energy project development.

Career moves

Cassie Bowe was promoted to partner at Energy Impact Partners, a venture capital fund with $2 billion in assets under management that invests in energy, decarbonization, mobility, security, industry and smart homes, buildings and cities.

Emma McDonagh is now a senior associate at Overture, a venture fund at the intersection of climate and government.” McDonagh joins Overture from Powerhouse, a clean energy and mobility venture fund.

Erica Brinker was promoted to chief commercial officer and head of environmental, social and governance at solar tracker maker Array Technologies.

Alice Reynolds is now president of the California Public Utilities Commission. Reynolds was previously senior adviser for the energy office of California Governor Gavin Newsom.

Lauren Glickman is joining Encore Renewable Energy as VP of marketing. Encore provides community-scale renewable energy services. Glickman was previously with RenewComm and, before that, WindyGlick Communications.

Gridiron Energy has named Rachel Permut as chief strategy officer to help expand its distributed energy resource offerings for the commercial market. She was previously director of solutions innovation for Engie Energy Solutions in North America.

EnergeiaWorks, an executive search firm dedicated to renewable energy, hired Monica Scantlen in the newly created position of director of recruitment. Scantlen’s last role was with Power Systems Consultants, and she previously served as senior recruiter at EnergeiaWorks during a major growth period from 2012 to 2020. The search firm also promoted Victoria Waye to director of customer success.

Krista Stark is now an analyst for commercial sales at DSD Renewables. She was previously with Sol Systems and once worked at the Duke University Lemur Center.

Heliogen, a startup with a new take on concentrated solar power, merged last year with Athena Technology Acquisition Corp., which bills itself as​“one of the only entirely women-led SPACs.” Canary’s Julian Spector reported on the industrial-heat solar startup and its SPAC merger. Diana Nielsen is now head of business development at Swift Solar. She was previously with Voltus. Swift Solar stacks perovskite solar cells to make tandem cells and aims to deposit these layers on flexible substrates and foils.

Sangeeta Ranade, formerly with the New York Power Authority, is now VP of energy as a service at AlphaStruxure, a Schneider Electric/​Carlyle Group company.

Borrego, a developer and provider of engineering, procurement, construction (EPC) and operations and maintenance services for large-scale renewable energy projects, has promoted Joanie Brooke to VP of business operations for EPC. Borrego also hired Jacqueline Ashmore as VP of engineering and development. Ashmore joins Borrego from Boston University, where she served as the executive director of the university’s Institute for Sustainable Energy. Catriona Wiley joined Borrego as the executive VP of people and culture after more than seven years with food and beverage giant Torani. Wiley will guide Borrego’s diversity, equity and inclusion plan.

Anne Webb, previously with Southern Company Gas, has joined Nelnet Renewable Energy with responsibility for strategic accounts. Nelnet partners with community solar developers to help find subscribers for their projects.

Laura Singer, previously with the Payne Institute for Public Policy, is now senior policy and regulatory affairs associate at geothermal startup Fervo Energy. Singer notes on Twitter:

Follow ceramist Malene Barnett on Instagram. In addition to her accomplishments as an artist, Barnett is an activist who founded the arts advocacy nonprofit Black Artists + Designers Guild.
