The market for microgrids is slowly but surely expanding in the Midwest, and the technology is generating a lot of buzz. Energy analysts say that microgrids may be our best opportunity to support a cleaner, more resilient, more reliable power grid. 

But how exactly do microgrids work? In this video, David Chiesa breaks it down. Chiesa is senior director of global business development at Chicago-based S&C Electric, one of the largest companies constructing industrial-scale microgrids in the U.S.
