Geoff McGhee is a journalist, data-visualization practitioner and creative technologist who has worked in media and academic roles in the United States and abroad. He is a veteran of the infographics and multimedia staffs of The New York Times, ABC News, and France’s Le Monde. At Stanford University, he created Journalism in the Age of Data, an acclaimed documentary about data journalism and visualization, and developed new forms of digital academic publications for the university’s Center for the American West. He continues to work at the nexus of research and journalism. In 2020, he was part of a team at High Country News that won a George Polk Award for investigative journalism and a Sigma Award for data journalism for an exploration of the ongoing legacy of Indigenous land appropriated to fund U.S. universities.
