Michigan not on track for net-zero

CLIMATE: Michigan will fall short of Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s long-term carbon neutral goal unless more ambitious climate policies are adopted, according to a new report from clean energy consultants and advocates. (Detroit News)

SOLAR:
• Michigan regulators recently approved a Consumers Energy settlement that will create a community solar pilot program and could allow for the development of a long-planned landfill solar project in Grand Rapids. (MiBiz)
• An eastern Indiana county prepares utility-scale solar regulations in anticipation of project proposals from developers. (Palladium-Item)
• An Illinois city approves spending $5 million to help pay for a solar canopy at a civic center parking lot. (WAND)

COAL: Illinois is so far the only state that has tried to address cultural dislocation” related to its energy transition from coal, according to a report from a clean energy think tank. (Canary Media)

EMISSIONS: Minnesota GOP lawmakers urge state pollution regulators to reject stricter tailpipe emission rules under consideration in California. (MPR News)

OIL & GAS:
• A nonprofit research group finds that Ohio oil and gas drillers have used PFAS, also known as forever chemicals,” during operations thousands of times since 2013. (Ideastream)
• A North Dakota commission awards a $1.1 million grant for a company to install geothermal for cooling and electricity at oil well sites. (Prairie Public Broadcasting)
• Local officials are working to identify the cause of a natural gas pipeline fire yesterday in central Illinois. (WAND)

PIPELINES: North Dakota owes more than $13 million in Dakota Access pipeline policing costs from five years ago and will wait to make payments pending the outcome of a federal court case. (Center Square)

ELECTRIC VEHICLES:
• Electric truck manufacturer Rivian produced nearly 7,400 vehicles at its Illinois plant last quarter and anticipates meeting its target of 25,000 vehicles this year. (Reuters)
• General Motors is ramping up its electric vehicle assembly plans by increasing production of the Chevrolet Bolt and other models. (Reuters)

BIOENERGY: The first renewable natural gas fueling station to support Amazon’s heavy duty delivery vehicles is operational in Ohio. (WYSO)

CLEAN ENERGY: State and federal tax credits are helping Illinois residents reduce upfront costs for solar projects and electric vehicles. (WLS)
